As you travel across the continent of Orsterra in Octopath Traveler, you will come across two types of chests on your road. There are the simple chests that open simply by approaching without specific conditions and the purple locked chests that require special action on your part to be opened.

How to open locked (purple) chests in Octopath Traveler :

To open the purple chests, you must have a thief on your team. But be careful! Not just any of the thieves, because if you can later assign this class as secondary for one of your characters it does not mean that you will be able to open the purple chests for all that. 

No, to open the purple Octopath Traveler chests, you must have Therion with you. His  » pick lock «  talent allows you to open the closed purple chests that you will find during your journey. 

If you’ve played without Therion so far it’s time to go recruit him at clifflands. These purple chests will often allow you to get good pieces of equipment for your characters without you having to spend your money.
